Senior Renovations

Want to renovate your home so that you can comfortably “age in place”?

Or maybe you want to help a parent or grandparent do that?

Well, at Greenpoint Properties we’ve been working in the real estate industry in High Point, Greensboro, Kernersville, and Winston Salem for a long time. And we’ve seen many seniors renovate their homes to make them more friendly over the long-term.

Sooner is better than later!

In case that’s something you want to do, we thought we’d stop by with a few suggestions!

Stairs — Does the home have stairs? One thing that becomes more and more difficult as people get older is going up and down stairs. We recommend installing a stair lift or a stair elevator (which can carry a wheelchair). The cost is usually around $5,000 to $10,000, which is reasonable when considering the long-term benefits.

Wheelchair Ramps — For smaller staircases, installing a wheelchair ramp is recommended.

Handrails — In the bathroom, and especially in the shower, make sure that there are plenty of handrails and grab bars. This will help prevent slips or falls.

Walk-in Tubs & Showers — Easy access to tubs and showers is important for seniors. And walk-ins are probably the most accessible. The cost usually runs between $5,000 to $7,000.

Fall-Protection Flooring — It’s grim but falling death rates went up by 30% in the U.S. from 2007 to 2016 for older adults. So, it’s worth installing new floors that are designed to absorb impact.

Hope that helps! Those are just a few suggestions.
